Samsung is by far the most powerful company in South Korea. However, it seems the mighty empire is on a downfall. The galaxy note 7 scandal and their chief being arrested clearly states that the biggest risk of Samsung, is their owner.
On February 17, Lee Jae-young was imprisoned. This was related to the impeachment judgement of Park Geun-hye, and the scandalous instant related to Choi Soon-sil. Lee Jae-young was accused of giving donations worth 36 million dollars (41 billion won) to organizations related to Ms Choi, and the fact that the company did this to win government support for a big restructuring of Samsung, that would help a smooth leadership transition in favour of Mr Lee, who is standing in as chairman for his ill father, Lee Kun-hee. Lee jae-young also confirmed the company gave a horse and cash to help the career of Ms Choi's daughter, Chung Yoo-ra, Samsung has denied all charges of Lee Jae-young, but it seems this time, the prosecutors has claimed victory. So, their's some questions left. What's going to happen next? Samsung has been refusing conversations with SHAPR(Supporters for the Health And Rights of People in the Semiconductor industry) about the compensation and the recurrence prevention issue related to the occupational disease problem, which caused 79 victims. Also Samsung and their suppliers is being criticized from not only Korea, from the international society, for the methanol addiction disaster of their workers and for their nonunion policy. If Samsung doesn't switch up things starting from now, they will be in great danger.
The arrestment of Lee jae-young is a very rare case in South Korea, because the court has been always liberal to CEOs. Lee jae- young is the first chief to be arrested in Samsung's history. Can we say that Justice has won?
